Balloon Stomp (to the music “Get Ready 4 This” by 2 Unlimited) - Everybody gets a balloon attached to a string that is tied to their ankle. The object is to pop the balloons of other people while protecting yours. Players must stay within arranged areas. Each time the “high energy” music stops, everyone must freeze. The last person left with an unpopped balloon, wins. Back To Top

Group Participation Dance Ideas

July 9, 2009 by unknown

Snowball Dance (to any appropriate, longer, slow song -or- whatever suits the party) - Starting with one couple dancing, (consisting of the Bar or Bat Mitzvah boy or girl and  an adult partner during a Bar/Bat Mitzvah), whenever "Snowball" is called, those dancing go out amongst those in attendance not yet dancing and select someone to quickly bring back to the dance floor. Thus starting with 2 then making 4 then making 8 then 16, 32, etc. on the dance floor until there's no longer enough in attendance to double the dance floor population, at which time everyone is invited who hasn't been selected. The next command given is simply to change partners. A great way to pack the floor and provide grounds for lots of participation.  Back To Top

You Didn't Just Say That!

July 9, 2009 by Elaine Mack Elaine Mack Marblehead, MA

Why is it that the minute you get engaged well meaning people from all over the planet suddenly have little "tips" to throw your way? They range from the benign, "You should wear your hair up. It looks so pretty that way." To the downright hateful, "You should loose 20 pounds or you'll look like the Troll in Shrek". It's easy to wonder if people really do have your best interest at heart when they hurl their unsolicited advice at you from all corners. But there are a few things to keep in mind before you ban everyone you know from your wedding and change the locks on your door.

The Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah are a "rite of pas

July 9, 2009 by Unknown

Judaism deems a boy a "bar mitzvah" when he turns 13 and a girl becomes "bat mitzvah" when she turns 12. (Reformed Jews celebrate both boys and girls coming of age on their 13th birthday).  At that point the child, who is no longer a child in the eyes of Jewish law becomes responsible for his own deeds, spiritually, ethically, and morally.

Wedding Programs

July 9, 2009 by Jeanette Hawkinson

Over the years, providing guests with wedding programs has become the norm rather than the exception. Guests love knowing what is coming up next in the ceremony, and if yours will depart from the usual they may appreciate any explanations of rituals or a lineup of events.

Place Cards & Escort Cards - What's the Difference

July 9, 2009 by Tracy Bloom Schwartz, Creative Parties

Whether in Columbia, SC or another locale, this question comes up frequently and people use the word interchangeably. In fact, there is a difference.

Escort Cards: These cards are used to let each guest know what table they are assigned to. The classic escort card is a small envelope with the guest name on the envelope and the table assignment on the card inside. You can use the words "You are seated at table ___ " or you can just give the table number assignment, as the word table is implied. For a very personal touch, you could write a note to each guest. A tent card, folded at the top, is also as an escort card. The design of these cards is only limited by your imagination. They can have bows, dried flowers, ribbons or anything that compliments the theme. You can use any color of ink. They can even be a "thing". We are doing a summer wedding and using a heart shaped seed packet with an organza ribbon as the escort card. At another wedding we are putting the card in a charming, small silver and gold flowerpot, which then becomes a gift for the guest. We have used colored stones. The important thing to think about is that the guest has to hold on to this "card" until they go into the formal part of the evening.

PROGRAMMING MUSIC EFFECTIVELY

July 9, 2009 by Paul Beardmore, DJ University, Music Selection 101

PROGRAMMING MUSIC EFFECTIVELY
The music selection is the most important aspect of a Disc Jockey’s performance. In a nut-shell, the customer and guests at a given event will decide whether a DJ a good one or a poor one based primarily on the music that he plays at their event. For newer DJ's who have not yet mastered their interactive and MC skills, it is even more important that they quickly learn how to choose and mix GOOD music.
